In observance of Memorial Day, Shadowgirls will not be posting today. Even though Dave and I are American, we realize that Shadowgirls is an international comic. We do not espouse any specific political or religious stance here, but I don’t think there is a place in the world that has not at some point been touched by war. You don’t need to be from the U.S. or agree with any particular political viewpoint to honor those who have served and given their life in service…to any country. We hope you will join us.
“But grief is not the end of all. I seem to hear the funeral march become a paean. I see beyond the forest the moving banners of a hidden column. Our dead brothers still live for us, and bid us think of life, not death–of life to which in their youth they lent the passion and joy of the spring. As I listen , the great chorus of life and joy begins again, and amid the awful orchestra of seen and unseen powers and destinies of good and evil our trumpets sound once more a note of daring, hope, and will.” -Oliver Wendell Holmes, 1884

I was about doing a joke about me being a swede having no part in this war bussiness, then I recalled that we did loose two officers in Afghanistan not long ago, Gunnar Andersson, and Johan Palmlöv.
A sad story, even for the lone attacker, a local who just seemed to have snapped. He was shot by his own police.
Well thank you for not making a joke, Aldarad, since it is not about any specific war. And while Sweden has not been involved in any declared war since the early 19th century, they’ve had their share. Including the massive 30 years war. Thank you for reading.
We have two holidays here. ANZAC day, the 25th April and Remembrance day the 11th of November. Both are somber and humbling affairs.
Lest we forget.
