Rifts
I am as of yet to find a skill sheet as intimidating.
Rifts actually comes in at 3rd for me. I can free hand a Rifts character, though the book pile to do so is intimidating.
2nd is Pendragon. The epitome of "roll on table X", there's actually a required table roll for "Grandfather's Social Status". The Binary value system they use though is still one of the coolest Mechanics I've ever used. Character Sheet
Hardest is Gurps. I don't think it's physically possible to build a character without a computer program. Even with a computer to do all the math, I can't turn one out in under 45 minutes.
See I have never played either of those two games. Although I do like the sound of Pendragon with your grandfathers status.
I am a big fan of rolling out everything on tables like in the Warhammer games.

then you'd be interested in Rolemaster (aka rollmaster, chartmaster, rulemonster) therer are about 5 books full of tables and charts to roll on, like the roll to hit using your "light mithral pickaxe against a 7'11″ Orc armed with a spoon" has it's own table to roll on, as opposed to fighting an orc armed with a fork. (I may be exagerrating a little bit, but it really IS that rediculous.)

Rifts is pretty easy by comparison. (pretty much anything by Palladium books is the same system, so if you know one, you know them all) It's like the d20 system, you know the basic system and the rest is just settings and setting specific mechanics. (i will say that rifts is potentially the most over the top system that i've come across, as there are few systems where it is possible for a pistol to vaporise an unarmored character with the LOWEST possible damage roll.

One thing that annoys me with there system, is the fact your skills are so low and alot of it is "DM's discretion to give you bonuses". Well from what I remember at least.

Bump.
Also, tonight is my weekly gaming sesion. Playing "Dark Heresy" a role playing game based in the grim dark future of Warhammer: 40 000 where there is only war.
Hopefully I can manage to not get any more insanity pts over the next two missions so I can side step into a special career rather then taking the standard paths. Only 600 exp to go :S

It's fracking awesome. Did you ever play warhamer role play? Not the latest one, but the previous one that is. Well it is the same system. Just a little more streamlined. Really well done.
Instead of going from one career to the next (tomb robber -> vampire hunter) etc. You choose a careers (Assasin, Adept, Arbite, Guardsman, Imp Psyker, Priest, Tech-priest) and as you spend enough experience in your starting rank you move to your 2nd rank which unlocks new talents and skills to buy. And you can still buy from your previous rank. Ranks are sort of like Initiate, Priest, Anointed Priest etc. But more the lines of military ranks within an organistion. One of the coolest things though. Your stats, Weapon Skill, Ballistic Skill, Strength, Toughness, Agility, Intelligence, Willpower, Fellowship etc. Any of them can be increased by +5 at a time. Just some classes do it cheaper then others. eg. Imp Psykers can up Weapon skill for the 1st time at 500 exp, 2nd time 750, next 1000, next 1500 (or similar too that) and it maxes out there. or they can increase Will power 1st for 100, then 250, then 500 then 750. So key stats are cheaper to increase, but anyone can increase anything. Combat is sound, just as lethal as warhammer fantasy role play.
Psykic phenomena (psykic test gone bad) are really qutie scary. Personal favorite is "Reverse Gravity" (their results are random) which makes you take falling damage as you fall up into the ceiling, then falling damage when you fall back into the floor. Oh and it affect everything/one withing a certain radius. . . nuts.
