Normally wouldn't post in a thread that's gone this long without a post, but… I recently started an affiliate marketing business online. Anybody who wants to help this become a success can go to http://workman.offershop.us Just click outgoing links to visit another site and there's a possibility I'll get paid for giving the traffic, what could be simpler? Where's the harm? Come on, help a guy out. You know you want to. Please?

This nearly smells of pyramid scheme.

You know what? Valor's got the right idea – we shouldn't have fewer opportunities for making personal wealth on the Daves' dime, we should have more!
Let's all go ahead and start filling the forums with delightful opportunities to Get Rich Quick and the like – heck, I can see it now, I'll market a flea powder for our avian friends! Each click will get you Cindy Crawford nudie pics! (hey, she's 44, it's not like I can get Kate Moss pics for this price!)
Please, guys, you know you want to!

Hey, not at all. I put together the site, so if anybody takes a fall for being suckered into anything, it's me. It's doing well so far, so… See, the way affiliate marketing works, if people don't already know, is that places like GameStop and Walmart, for example, want people to go to their websites and they're willing to pay people to help them get the traffic by offering exclusive deals that can only be obtained by clicking through to their sites from somebody else's. Others simply want to get their names out there and are willing to pay people just to get others to their sites. And if you can't trust places like Walmart.com and Gamestop.com, then who can you trust online? No, I find it dubious when visitors actually have to take action for affiliates like myself to get paid. All I ask is for people to put a little faith in me and just click through to other sites. Sure, saying that makes me seem even shadier, but I swear, it's legit as far as I know. Maybe I'm out of line shamelessly plugging my site like that, but hey, that's how all businesses get started. And I didn't see any rules saying I couldn't…

*sigh* Jac, maybe you didn't see it, but that was me playing nice on this topic. I know no ill will was intended, and I meant none in return, but folks treating a place like this as a marketing opportunity kind've makes me nervous. I've had great places implode due to tolerating it, and I wasn't exaggerating all that much.

Besides which, I'm not so agressive or malicious as to try to destroy something I like to get money, so spamming the site with the link is something I won't do. If I'm in the wrong, I'll do whatever is mandated to correct the error I made, even going so far as never posting in the forum again if that's what I have to do to make amends.

I sense much fear in this one.

Well, we'll see what the Daves say- it is their corner of the 'tubes, so they make the rules. I don't think they'd bust out the banhammer for one infraction, though.
Still, I think we can agree, and even if this doesn't get made into a formal rule I think it's necessary for respect of the Daves and everyone else on these boards, that we should NOT be using these forums to sell stuff. A "hey, look what I made" is okay, a "hey, come buy my stuff" shouldn't be.

That's just it: it's not my stuff and I'm not selling. I put together the site, and therein is a "look what I made" even if it is me trying to make money. That's why I'm not afraid to be told to delete the post. If it were my stuff, I'd have done actual work and approached the necessary people with ads. And besides which, no matter how I approach people with the site, either through legitimate paid albeit still not professional-looking ads or just making a post whether it broke written or implied rules, it'd still look pretty dubious. I'm taking a risk no matter how I present it.
And if I am showing fear, it's because I'm new to the marketing game and despite my commitments to make it work, I have not so many outlets at the moment to actually make it work.

Chill V. In my opinion you have not been a d*ck about it, so it should be fine. Just keep an eye on the Daves, they be sneaky like buttelers.
Also, I was trying to make an amusing star wars reference. Obviously, you are not amused.

This is one of the Dave's opinion. Normally, in most places unsolicited business propositions like these would be frowned upon. However… It's in the appropriate thread here, the "Let's brag about ourselves" thread. If another thread had been made, it would probably be considered not good forum etiquette. I'm certain there was no ill-meanings or malicious intent here. Basically, no harm and no foul.
That said though, since it's not your stuff, it gets into that shady gray area of self promotion vs. sales. Which is what this thread is really about… Self promotion. Think of it like writing a book. If you write a book, you'll want to tell everyone about if so if can buy a copy of it if they want. But there's a difference between getting people to buy YOUR book versus getting people to buy SOMEONE ELSE'S book. Then that goes into that whole gray area. This would be more deemed as sales… And we have ad space for that.
For now, just let it go and move on. In the future though, I would avoid doing so.

See! Never underestimate the sneaky-sneakeyness.
So I have recently discovered that cooking brocoli on the BBQ is fantastic! Just cut it into approx bite sized bits so it cooks evenly, chuck a big chunk of butter, and a little pepper with it. Then cook it until it is just starting to go brown on the very tips. Fantastic!

Really? I always did it in foil. Grilled eggplant is really good too, especially with basalmic vinegar and a little olive oil.

Something else I have heard of, but never tried.
Cut a capsicum (I think you may know them as a 'pepper') into 'rings'. Then use the rings on the bbq as egg rings.

Hmm… sounds like that'd make a good breakfast- put a little hot salsa on top, serve with toast…
I need to stop at the grocery store.

If you are doing it that way, I think it needs bacon .
Good god I love my BBQ. I need to experiment with things on it more. And no, we don't eat prawns (read: shrimp) on the BBQ. >_<
