Way I see it, there are two possibilities:

1) Your instincts are wrong, and Gage is indeed the baby-daddy. Given Jackson's steadfast stance that Charon didn't sleep with Gage, it could be that the pretty-boy dated her for a while, but knew she'd always had a thing for Jack. The EOD (or perhaps another such organization) took Charon to implant her with the crysalis, and had Gage impregnate her so that the resultant child (Becka) would become the paranormal force they intended.

OR…

2) Your instincts are dead on and Gage SOMEHOW either managed to fudge the DNA results at the end of Season 1, or the REAL-real father has not shown up yet, and Gage sees an oppurtunity by sheer coincidence.

In either case, this raises a very good question: Why does he want Becka?

Frankly, if he was rejected by Charon, putting her through this particular kind of Hell could be seen as sweet revenge to him. Good a mother as she is, it wouldn't be hard for her to be painted as an unfit monster in front of a jury.

But then, what of Jackson? Gage seems to have hired him, so in my scenario, he couldn't represent Charon…she'd have to find ANOTHER lawyer that she ISN'T friends with, who might just make her pay out the nose, with her luck. Of course, could Jack just suddenly tell Gage "sod off" and then represent his childhood sweetheart?

We know Gage has SOMETHING on Phil and his band of merry, merciless men. WHAT that happens to be, they've yet to so much as hint at. I don't think it has to do with the McKays, or, like you said, they'd be more interested in Gage along with his findings.

It could be that Campbell is threatening to expose the Esoteric Order of Dagon's existence, and somehow pulled a "if I die, seven people will release the information I have to the media" type of deal, so they can't quite kill him…yet.
