From "Idiot customer" to "sympathetic broke person" in five panels. Good job.

EDIT: It's also amazing that my first post on this forum pushes the thread to a new page, just like I tend to do on any forum or website I comment on.

I have my own opinion on how "broke" she is, but it's neither here nor there. And it's not as nice as the other people who've been posting about it.

Amazing how she went from "well there SHOULD have been more than a little light if it was THAT bad" in such a seeming stuck-up manner to bawling customer having a breakdown and waving her warranty book around saying how her husband told her to show the book if she had any trouble, though.

But then, one of my parents' "friends" is a semi-nutty old bat who's so much of a tightwad that I'd believe it completely if she tried to pull the same thing as an act just to convince the repair shop to fix it under warranty. :p

Yeah, this is one of those spots where you feel for them, but you really can't cave.

The best method at this point would probably be the smooth line of

"I know you don't have a lot, but even if I fix it, this car's getting up there, and costs are going to just keep increasing on you. While this might not be the best time for you personally, this is really teh opertunity to replace your vehicle with something al little newer, which will have fewer issues and less upkeep cost, you might even save on gas mileage.  And since I know that Warrenty is important to you, I'll roll it over for free to the new car, and throw in free 3 month check-ups, so we can catch things like this in the future."

It's time for another good idea, bad idea:

Bad Idea – Joining the EOD to do so.

That lady would have been my grandmother if my Mom and Dad hadn't been around to help take care of things.

Even then, there were problems.  I remember walking into a rather nasty smelling kitchen, and finding all the food in the fridge had spoiled because the thermostat had gone bad and she hadn't bothered to check the temperature.

Saddly, I was that lady. Stupid light came on, but I checked and it was on teh Dipstick, just below the add a quart line. Figured if it's just a quart it's fine.

After the Crankshaft sheered in half, I come to find out it never actually goes below "add a quart" even when it's more like "add 4 quarts, HURRY!"

I bet that'll be a striking blow to the EoD, too.

They really need a tip jar in that work shop. I know it may seem a little strange but if the customer gets to set around and watch Charon get hot and oily while wearing that tight of a work suit it seems only right.

Interestingly, when you look at the cost increase when compared to the fuel savings over the life of the vehicle, the Hybrids are actually less cost effective than a traditional engine. Once the government Stipend for buying a hybrid expires there's no financial insentive to buy a Hybrid.

I don't like the methodology of those cost-benefit analyses, though.  They hold the price of gas constant, which- really?  In your experience is that a halfway reasonable assumption?  A better method would be to look over the past five years for how gas prices have fluctuated, and use that to model out into the future, especially the months that more driving would be done, and more money would be spent on gas (December, August, etc.)  Also, hybrids tend to hold onto their resale value- that might change when they get more common.

Personally, I'm not too impressed by hybrid gas mileage.  It's okay, but it's about the same as you'd get with a decent TDI.  The only reason I'd consider a hybrid engine is if I needed to drive a truck or SUV, where that little bit of a boost in gas mileage makes a big difference in operating costs.

Things are in development though- I think everyone is excited about the Volt, and Ford has some good stuff coming down the pipelien.  I'm really curious though to see what Fiat does with their new hybrid system they're working on, and I hope they try it out in the US market.  Hey, got to do something with all those Chrysler dealerships.  Oh, and the Germans are getting up to speed… can't wait to see what the Volkswagen group comes up with.

Not unless Ford has vastly changed their design to the point where their 4×4s are now throw and go.  I got stuck in one of the older models they force us to drive for work and I could NOT get the wheels to lock so that I could get out.  I had to call someone with a winch.

Now, if you're talking about a Dodge Ram… those are quite nice indeed.  They handle well, they're probably one of the best 4×4s I've had to drive this winter, and they are nice and big and roomy.  I was also able to push it to 21 mpg without much effort, so nyah. :P

I got no problem with a Dodge Ram. The SRTs are freakin' things of beauty. I just picked a F-450 because I'm an asshole. :)

Becca's have been glowing all season. Charon's might be a bit glowier, but mainly I think it's just that her pupils are white this page, where as every other person has been mostly black pupiled. Which is kind of funny if you think about it because light turns pupils red not white, hence deamon eyed flash photos. The layer Dave is using for glasses also adds a touch of shine to everyone wearing them.

Its not the car.

Its Albert. She want him back.

When my Dad died he went slowly in cancer so Mom had time to prepare for it.

I wonder if Albert went fast.
