Nothing wrong with leftfield – keeping your audience guessing keeps them interested. Don't get me wrong here, this is certainly awesome, I thought leftfield was a better word to describe my surprise… as Alan Moore once said (and he is an expert in these things) you blithely lead your audience up the primrose path of comfort and amusement, then you do them serious harm with a baseball bat. And they'll love you for it

From what I recall, Merv was kind of an umbrella-nickname for the Slaads in general. That was early on, years ago.
That or my brain has shorted out from years of working the local grocer's freezer.
