Crap. do I gotta tell everyone my life story too?   ok, October 31 of 08 my old band and I were doing a Halloween show in Innsmouth.  Nothing fancy, We were the "Assholes from Outer Space", a GWAR Tribute band.  After the show these two chippies get back in the green room and start asking questions about one of the songs we played that night, ya know, asking if we were really into doing the nasty with a halibut.  when we said it was just a song and joked about it, they flipped out and suddenly we're dealing with ninja fish people or something.

I managed to get out of the club while they were taking out my friends and after a long chase I hid in an old cannery.   I can honestly say that Tuna flavored cat food does NOT taste like tuna.   After hiding out there a day or so a phone in the back office started ringing.  This chick named FIDES tells me to come over to an internet forum and introduce myself to some people, where I met Bell, Inara an tha rest (cept for FIDES, ain't Nobody met her… she's like Charlie)

There I said it.  You want more? It can wait til we meet face to face.

I’m red, white, blue, tattooed and just don’t care; I’m the all-American nightmare.

Now, now gentlemen… I realize many of you newcomers have lots of questions about why we treat this situation the way we do, but you're just going to have to trust that we have our reasons until we're ready to share.  Some of them are too… Hera pauses and turns to lay a gentle hand on Fors' cheek, which when looked at very closely, is seen to be covered in fine, faint scars.  Trembling a little, she turns back and continues her thoughts  painful to share with nearly total strangers.  Especially for those of us who prefer their privacy.

Tink, dear, go check your mailbox.  I had someone deliver something for you last night that should take care of that eczema for you.  You should be good as new if you use it like I wrote in the directions in about 12 hours.

I Cell… while I appreciate your caution, we are not without our own resources and some quite formidable ones at that.  Should Tink need to experiment with modification, she merely need call on certain of our number and we can ensure she comes to no permanent harm.  Do not underestimate the unknown merely because it falls outside your personal purview.   While I rarely advocate attempting to use a foreign tech without very careful analysis, turning an enemy's own weapons and tactics back on them has been historically known to be quite effective when it is possible. Now, while it might be somewhat abhorrent in some applications, in a situation such as this, where we are hopelessly outnumbered and deificly outclassed… it might be our only hope of surviving our current circumstances.

Should anyone need me in the next few hours, I'll be findable in the apple orchard. Oh and Maz?  I think I've worked out a sedative that should be compatible with your metabolism that will allow you to fly without decorating the inside of Sue's plane or being completely useless when you hit the ground.  I'm still working on the allergies due to your… unique physiology, but I'll let youknow if I make any progress.

For now, though, I have work to do.  Be safe my friends and to all our new allies… watch your backs.  We've been taken unawares too many times to be lax now.

There is none so blind, as will not see.

Sorry it's taken a bit to respond.  Both boys have somehow managed to catch colds this week.  Add that Charlie is hitting the infamous "terrible twos" and Joshua is teething, and well, I've had little time or energy for much else.

That being said, Maz, Sue is on her way out, now.  She will pick you up at the Innsmouth airport at 1:00 pm Eastern time.  Please use the stuff Hera sent you.  Michael and Daniel get really tired of having to drag your sorry butt up to bed when you arrive.  Plus, you know if there's any chance of you having a hangover, the guys will think it's hilarious to wake you up at the crack of dawn.  And really, I don't need that.  It will wake up the kids, and let me tell you, I need them to sleep as much as possible. :)

Much love to all that I know, and cautious fondness to the rest of you.  You are all in my prayers, as ever.

Fors returns Hera's gentle caress with a fond, grateful smile, and a kiss.  I Cell, allow me to underscore my mate's words… you are understandably used to dealing with fringe cults, the paranoid, and feebleminded agitators, hence your approach.  Trust me when I say that we are none of those, and we fully understand that we do not and never will fully understand our foes.  That said, we have become experienced at using our enemies' strengths and weaknesses against themselves.  Perhaps you recall the unexplained sinkholes in Innsmouth that mysteriously swallowed a certain lowlife's home, about a year ago?  Suffice to say, that that was a very minor bonus compared to our true achievement, disabling a major EoD subterranean base and destroying an irreplaceable artifact of considerable power – facts which will never make it into the papers.

We have had our share of losses, however, hence the naming of Inara's adopted child, found down there in the darkness, but our resolve is unchecked.  The Old Guard here will understand me (and adamas may, as well, if I read him correctly) when I say that I inherently recognise the dangers of delving into things Man Was Not Meant To Know, and just so long as we meddle with only the physical aspects of the enemy's tools I do not perceive any risks.  If, however, you are suggesting that these weapons partake of some mystical source to function, please say so, so that I may support Tink in her examination thereof – and if that is the case, I must chide your incaution in not relaying such.

I have a theory about the triplets's pretty little rocks. It is possible they are worried because it draws energy from the body's Bio-electric field them amplifys it like somekind of wierd Tesla coil. If thats right then I can see how overuse could be lethal. Of course this is based on a strictly physical note, If there is a metaphysical connection then it goes out the window.

Whatever it is, it just melted a solid block of lead!  Damnit, now I need to find new radiation shielding somewhere before Dr. Peck finds out!

Anyway, I think I've figured out a way around the worst of the nervous system damage- all you've really got to do is wear a faraday cage of some sort- the electricity gets routed around you harmlessly, and if it's properly grounded, no shock.  The downside is that it involves tin foil hats.

Umm, Faraday cages can also disrupt the energy fields of certain individuals who enter it Tink, so I'm staying away from them, I dislike the migraines. As for the lead, sorry but I don't carry lead in my trailer.

Ugh flipping burgers to fund my stay.  Not gonna touch my real savings unless I have zero other choice, no telling who might trace what back to family and friends.  Not gonna take that chance.  It sucks now like it did back in High School, but it should work fine for buying supplies.  I hope.  Just doesn't feel right working under a false id, but again I'm not involving my less curious family members in this weirdness.

And man do I mean weirdness.  Why in god's name would you need a Faraday cage and could it even be applied in such a fashion?  I always thought they were some sort of structure or something.  Discovery Channel for the lose it seems.  I never understood what the big fuss was with fancy things, I got jumped in an alley and all I needed to beat the ever-loving crap outta the jerks was right on hand.  Surprising how effective a trash can lid can be as a sucker punch.  I nabbed their wallets for spite and curiosity and weird part is these guys had a fair bit of cash to be jumping people.  I mean like over $1000 in cash between the three.  Score one more for the good guy I guess.

Okay, um, no.  A Faraday cage is a basic catch-all term for a device that routes electricity around whatever is inside.  Electricity is lazy, see?  And it only wants to follow the path of least resistance back to the source.  So if you give it an easier way around than straight through, you… no one is actually reading this, are they?

Long story short, I experimented with Andy's copper wire, and I think I've got a solution for armor.  Haven't made a physical prototype yet, but the math works out.  Should I wait for you to contact me, or can I just go ahead and send the specs to your Battery Park office?

Disabling them is a bit more tricky.  Haven't figured out how to do that remotely yet.  But the surprise of seeing someone stand up to something that was supposed to kill them horribly might give you an opening to do it in person.

It would be so nice if you had access to a high conductivity material, like gold or platinum. You wouldn't need all that much to draw the fire, yes? I thought this town was a gold refinery at one point. Might there be anything left that is still ore?

Would anything else serve to ground the lightning better, such as a rubber lined suit, or does it just melt through that? I'm thinking that it would be more convienient and less suspicious to wear underarmor than a metal cage.

Copper mesh lining between a layer of cloth on the outside and rubber on the inside should be fine, the problem would be grounding such a suit… maybe wires running along the outside of the shoes and across the sole of your shoes to act as a ground point…

Chronic, to your point, I have it on good authority that ore was not the regular source of gold at that plant.

As for utilizing a copper mesh to divert a massive load of electricity, one must remember that resistance increases as the gauge increases; as Tink pointed out, electricity will follow the "easiest" path, so a fairly low gauge (ie: very beefy) wire would need to be used.

hmmm.. true, I'd forgotten about that… Maybe one of you guys could figure out how to run it around a motorcycle or other vehicle then. I don't wanna get lightning struck on my bike, but my truck's gonna have to deal with it.

With a truck?  Pfft.  You'll be fine.  The metal in the frame already should act like a faraday cage.  It's why you don't get electrocuted if you hit an electric pole and down a power line on yourself.

No, I was thinking about that, Fors- you'd need to almost wear a suit of armor, if you were using copper wire with this kind of voltage.  Andy's surplus notwithstanding, that's why I haven't built a prototype yet.  You really need some kind of superconducting material, which I don't have.  But if our friends in the MIB have one of these to play around with, I'm sure they could scrap a flying saucer somewhere and get something that would fit the bill.

Flying Saucers? don't we have enough problems with Innsmouth?  I don't feel up to dicking around with the rest of the universe yet… The band may have been called Assholes from Outer Space but that was just the name ya dig?

It's been ok hanging around the farm Hera, but I swear that stuff you sent me is messing up with my sleep again.  didya rememeber to take that no dream stuff into account with those antihistamines?  Seein things that look like crop circles with fish swimming round them ain't exactly restful stuff at the best of times.  I'm switching back to my purple nose spray to see if that helps at all, seeing as Michael an the rest ain't exactly too thrilled about chasing me down in the middle of the night.

anyhow, gotta get back to work, or no pancakes for me in the morning.

Found a nice army-surplus place a few dozen miles outside Innsmouth.  The manager was overseas around the same time I was though we were in different bases in Iraq.  Got a nice deal on some decent gear including a nice little stab-proof jacket.  Best part is that my "buddies" footed this particular bill.  Guy said he'd even be willing to order some stuff if I wanted, though I got everything I really needed.  Hated saying I just wanted it for camping and nostalgia, but still better to not let anyone in on the fact I've been recruited to chase shadows.

This is one helluva a store, the owner himself showed me his VIP room.  Let's just say I haven't seen half that much ordinance since I was deployed.  Damn near enough to outfit a small army.  Don't get any ideas he won't sell it.  I tried to see if I could get a little something with my umph then a brick wrapped up in a towel, but alas I'd have to not only convince him to sell but have my fake ID hold up enough to get it.

Indeed I did, Maz, but your body chemistry is rather unique and most times I can't predict what is going to work effectively.  I've changed the formula a little and will see about getting a supply to you at the farm.  Hopefully, this time we'll get all your symptoms contained.

Maz, don't exaggerate, Love.  No one ever said you wouldn't get pancakes if you didn't work.  We simply said that honorable people work for their room and board.  Totally different, Dear. ;)

Things are going well out here.  Spring is here, so we're keeping busy just getting the Farm up and running for the year.  We're branching out this year in an effort to be even more self-sufficient.  So far, we've managed pretty well with a few milk cows, some pigs, chickens, and our vegetable garden.  This year, though, we've doubled the size of our garden and added some livestock to start our own herd.  Eventually, we should have a large enough herd to be able to provide all of our own meat.  We're working on clearing another acre of land behind the house where we plan to start a small orchard of fruit trees.  We'll probably start with just a few this year, and we'll add to it as we can each year.  Our one apple tree in the backyard has been sufficient for providing pies for us over the past few years, but with the traffic through here increasing, we will feel better with a few more options.

We've also planted a small bit of wheat, and will experiment with getting the old mill up and running.  In it's heyday, Grandma Betty's farm had the only mill in the area – her grandfather built it himself when he first moved out here, when he had the only farm for fifty miles or more.  When Grandma Betty was little, she said that the people from all of the neighboring farms would bring their grain here to mill.  Unfortunately, by the time I was born, the mill had been out of commission for years.  A town sprouted up about fifteen miles away and built their own mill, and our mill was old and slow in comparison.  The basic components are still there, but we're going to need someone with know-how and probably more than a few spare parts to get it up and running again.  On the plus side, it would make us that much less reliant on running into town for supplies.

Anyhow, I've rambled long enough. . .  Goodnight, and God bless.  You are all in my prayers, as ever.
