Fors quickly releases her, looks awkward for a moment, then considers things and gives Tink a mischevous grin.  Much better – I'd hate to have to invent a cover story if you'd freaked out and managed to destroy half of all creation with nothing more than a temper tantrum.  Even my own tongue might fail to sell a tale of such chaos without the presence of even a single instance of poultry.

Chuckling gently to himself, he turns and sights upon the spire.  Curious, it's shifted a little north of where it was – let's get a move-on lest we lose it altogether!  Ducking into alleys and down side streets to avoid wider thoroughfares as much as possible, soon the trio reaches a large Catholic-style Mission.  Fors hurries to make the necessary introductions, and soon a hoary-looking Father Herring arrives and escorts the team to the building's refectory.  Fors examines the available fare and nods.

It's… well, it's nothing fancy, but water and trail bread do keep well on this side of the Gauntlet.  It won't harm us, and it'll still our bellies.  I don't know about you, Adamas, but Tink and I haven't eaten in some time now… and there's something about questing through another's mind and then the land of the dead that encourages hunger.

Fors proceeds to shamelessly feed his face.

Adamas sniffs cautiously at the food before devouring it.

Yeah, fighting a dragon in a basement and being stuck as a cat does it for me. I must say you folks make life interesting. One thing, you said this place had shifted. How in the worlds could that be, even here?

Fors chuckles quietly and slows his jaw's pace after only consuming half of the yearly output of a bakery, searching for the best answer as he chews.  In broad strokes, this realm is a shadowy echo of the land of the living – hence its name, the Shadowlands – but the geography is mutable by multiple factors.  Emotions of the living - the Quick as they're called by Wraith – can blur things here, as can the ebb and flow of lay lines, the castings of major magics, and so forth.  Most times, the minor geography will shift back under its own power once it is not consciously or unconsciously impelled to shift, but on occasion geography here will simply fade away as a new mirrored building from the lands of the Quick takes its place.  Larger landmarks generally remain reliable, hence the river, as this site is ever close to it, but I felt I had not the time to describe this building's spire 'ere I lost consciousness.

Things are more concrete in the actual land of the dead, but trust me when I say that you'd not want to be caught there.  This is a no man's land, whereas that realm is a never-ending battle between the extremes of order and chaos, and neither one willingly bears up that which has no immediate use.

Father Herring approaches, and Fors speaks with him briefly before the good father excuses himself.  Ah… well, there's good news and bad news.  For our intents and purposes there's a one-time portal out of here they can make available to us.  But the bad news is, they've confirmed there are other Quick in the Shadowlands – and they're being hunted.  If we portal out, they'll have no way out.  Tink, think you can tough it out a little while longer?

Fors nods grimly.  In that case, let me inquire as to our friends' last known location, and we can venture forth.  Should we become separated, both of you ought to be able to find your way back here now; the spire's visible from just about anywhere in town.

Fors seeks out and consults with Father Herring, returning some little while later.  Seems they've gotten turned around and are being chased back towards Bear Market, of all places.  We can get ahead of them, if we're very quick and very lucky.
