D.Rey again, and I’m sorry about the delay for Monday’s page. I’m having finals this week, and as you know, luck would have it, our timing was a touch off for the story finale here.
And yes… This is indeed the conclusion of the Shared Destiny storyarc. Three and a half years, three states, and 211 pages later, we’re finally at the end of the storyline… But not the season. We still got a nine page epilogue to hit you all with before that’s all done! The ending of which, I believe will surprise the hell out of you and set up the second season.
We’ll start the Epilogue on May 4th, and we’re going to run some small neat little things here in the meanwhile, so sit tight…
…This is only the beginning.
Today we’re doing something new on Shadowgirls and plugging a comic that has long been a friend of ours. And that is Rival Angels by Alan Evans (Albone). I actually received a copy of a convention special of Rival Angels at Wizard World Chicago and I was really interested even then. When I was a young lad, my father, brother and I would look forward to Friday Night’s Main Event from the WWF and watch it every Saturday morning too. There was nothing about wrestling that I didn’t know or wouldn’t watch. I EVEN watched G.L.O.W…which was this totally badass, all-female, wrestling show. (Oh Farmer’s Daughter, how I miss you.) And Rival Angels manages to invoke the best of that show and WWF and all the memories of Friday Night’s Main Event.
The series centers on a young Wrestler who’s been called up from the “farm league” to the Rival Angels league, named Sabrina Mancini (aka Ultragirl.) The owner of the Leauge thinks that Ultragirl has huge marketing potential and she plans to give her a big push. This has caused friction with some of the veterans and the 3 rookies that Sabrina is bunking with. The personalities of the characters are appropriately broad considering the subject matter and I found myself completely enthralled with Sabrina’s rise to superstardom in the league. (Not to mention her spunky asian roommate Sun “Lil Dragon” Wong. Who I suspect is related to Lindsey.)
While the out of ring stuff is interesting and makes you root for your favorite, what Rival Angels really captures is the feel of the ring. From the good announcer/bad announcer, to the managers, to the cheaters, the crazy moves the back and forth matches, out of the ring and the KICK OUT’S! Just when you think it might be over someone freaking kicks out at the end of the end of page and challenges Shadowgirls for most aggravating page endings!
Alan does a great job of capturing everything that wrestling is about. He has created larger than life personalities given them signature moves and factions and put them to work in the webcomic ring. Oh, and its all girl wrestling. ALL GIRL. So…yeah. That does it for me. It’s time for a return to G.L.O.W. and I give Rival Angels a thumbs up and hope you check it out too!
LATE UPDATE FOR MONDAY: Page will be late today folks. I was soending all day on my class’ presentation paper and I’m a touch burnt out at the moment. But it’ll be up tonight sometime. Just probably not until later in the day. (And it will be. Last freakin’ page of the story. It’ll be up, dammit!) Thanks for understanding.

Happy Friday folks. Yes, D.Rey again and that means another B&W page, as I’m still getting over and trying to catch up from having my face swell up and deform like Harvey Dent earlier this week. The colors will be up later tonight for you all. I will probably do a B&W story for the comic someday in the future (probably sooner than you think) just not for this story arc. I do want to remain consistent. (Or as consistent as I can get that is.)
As for what was said in Jack and Charon’s conversation? Well… That’s for us to know and you to eventually find out. (Yeah, I know. We suck.)
I know I mentioned I’d wait until next week, but I figured I might as well have a little fun here and post what I think makes an ideal Shadowgirls unofficial soundtrack. (UST?) I’ve checked and most of these are available for download from Amazon, iTunes or some other legit musical downloading place. The titles in italics following the track and artist is the scene I think it goes best with.
1. Zombie : Cranberries (Broken Dreams)
2. Remedium : Yoko Kanno (Services)
3. 1234 : Feist (Alone Together)
4. Gold Dust Woman : Hole (Cat Fight)
5. Shadow Zone : Static X (Charon’s Shadowform Awakens)
6. Spring : Rammstein (Rebecca‘s Shadowform Awakens)
7. Army of Me : Bjork (The Deep One)
8. Sympathy for the Devil : Rolling Stones (Late Night Studying)
9. World Edge Theory: Yoko Kanno (Trapped)
10. When Worlds Collide: Powerman 5000 (Face to Face)
11. Elements : Yoko Kanno (Blood In, Blood Out)
12. Door of Destiny : Steve Jablonsky (Dark Queen Rising)
13. Last Beat of my Heart : Siouxie and the Banshees (Brave New Day)
So there you go. Feel free to add your own.
Preorders are still up for our Shadowgirl Figurine and we will see you Monday… For the conclusion of the Shared Destiny story arc. (But not the season!)
(EDIT: Colors added. Crap this page took longer and I got no idea why!)
Hey y’all. D.Rey here again. It’s another B&W page day again. For those that follow me on Facebook, you already know what happened. For the rest of you, apparently I ate something I didn’t realize I was allergic to. Thanks to the miracle of Benadryl, the the swelling and allergic reactions has gone down significantly and will be gone within a day or so. Unfortunately, because of said Benadryl, I spent half the day unconscious or mildly stoned. Thus I didn’t have the time to really color the page here like I wanted to, and I didn’t feel like rushing the coloring. I”ll color it and update the page with the colored version later on today, just like we did last Wednesday. But I still wanted to get the next page to you all, as I feel it’s one of the most important pages that really helps set up the next season.
Also I know I said I’d post my options for an unofficial Shadowgirls soundtrack… But I’m going to postpone that until next week. I think I got a neat idea for that.
If you click on the vote incentive button, you’ll see the next character drawing for out summer story arc.
And lastly, don’t forget to place your pre-order for the Shadowgirl figurine. (Hey, I’m gonna hype this until I get one!
)
See ya Friday!
(EDIT: Colors added!)
Hey folks, D.Rey here. I hope you all had a good Easter. D.Rod got bogged down with some stuff so I’ll be your host for a couple of weeks here to give him a bit of a helping hand.
So, here we are, another week and what looks to be the beginning of a real serious development in Chrissy’s character… But it’s not just her character either. It’s Charon’s as well. As polar opposites as the two women here seem to be, in an odd-about way, they’re more alike than they’d ever be willing to admit. It’s kinda funny… When the comic started, I really didn’t like the character and wouldn’t have mind if she had been killed off at all. As the story has progressed, Chrissy’s become an almost tragic figure and I actually want to see her overcome her difficulties and become a better person out of it. I think she’s on the way.
We mentioned that we’re planning a special story arc for this summer during our summer break. As you saw from the previous vote incentive, you can probably guess that the special story arc will involve the Golden Age Shadowgirl. Well, this week, I’m going to show you character designs for a few of the characters that’s also popping up in it. Today’s vote incentive is the villain of the summer story arc, so go to the TWC vote button and give us a vote and check the little bastard out.
See ya Wednesday, and then I‘ll give you all my suggestions for what I think a decent Shadowgirls soundtrack would be. Or at least the music I listened to while drawing it.
Later!
Don’t forget to place your preorders for the Shadowchild Figure!
So on this friday we leave you with Jack. I’m sure there is a nursery rhyme for this moment, but I’ll let you figure that out on your own. We’ll be back on Monday with the continuation of this scene. And hopefully Jack survives!
Don’t forget to pre-order your Shadowchild figure while supplies last!
See you on Monday!
For a moment I considered not mentioning the lack of color in this page and letting you believe that it was part of the story.
But I decided that was a little TOO evil even or me!! We just decided that rather than have you miss the story we’d post it in stages. So you can read it this morning with the greytones and then the colored version will appear later today so no one misses out and Dave gets to sleep a little this week. (I know…total DIVA, right?)
And today we see the cost of Lindsey’s courage and guilt. (And now we know she wasn’t kidding with what she told the vampire.) Make sure you come back later to see what this looks like in full color!
Also don’t miss out on your chance to get your limited run Shadowchild figure right HERE!
(Color added! -D.Rey)
We wrap up Cadence today in preparation for the final sequence in the main storyline. And hopefully again we answer and raise questions about the story. The voting for action figures still continues so please spend a moment and VOTE for our toy so that it can stand on your desk and look at you.
All day.
Waiting for you to drift off.
Waiting.
Because when you sleep it has adventures and goes around the office and kills monster action figures that belong to your co-workers.
It’s a fact. I’m putting in on the back of the box.
