Wow! Only a couple of days and we are already closing in on 100 votes. Thank you all for your support but we still need more to carry us to victory. Maybe we’ll get a button…but for now, please click here to vote. I WANT TOYS!!
Please enjoy this continuation of “Cadence”. And try not to enjoy Misty’s condition TOO much.
We close out the week…with something kind of nice for a change. AND a mini-cliffhanger. Not too bad. And in case you haven’t heard, Patchtogether has our Shadowchild design on their website. So if you want one of these soon to be bad ass action figures you need to vote and make positive comments on their site. They DO make you create an account but that ensures fairness. So its all in your hands. Take a look and vote now!
GIMME ONE!!
See you on Monday!
That looks like it hurt like a sumbitch.
We are counting down the days till the season ends but we have great things planned for the follow up to Season 2.
ALSO, we were contacted recently about a possible action figure. Any interest out there in a Shadowchild figure?
Hey everyone-
I don’t normally post things like this, but over the weekend I happened to catch an episode of “Secret Life of the American Teenager.” For anyone who doesn’t know, this show is from the creators of 7th Heaven and focuses on a normal 15 year old girl who goes away to band camp or something, sleeps with some dude she didn’t really know and comes back knocked up.
She wants to give the baby up for adoption and everyone on the show…EVERYONE on the show conspires to get her to keep the baby. The guy who knocked her up (who is a dick) and her current boyfriend each get jobs to help her pay for her to keep the baby. (Jobs that were given to them by current boyfriend’s dad because he believes they need to learn to work together and get along ) The girl who is in love with the guy who knocked up the star of this show goes to the church with HER ex boyfriend (who has nothing better to do than bow to the whims of the girl who dumped him for the mad impregnator) to get pregnant girl a job at the church day care after school. This is to pay for the FREE daycare she will get from the church and his Pastor dad will give her health insurance because “he believes its ethically responsible to give all employees health care”. They will also pay her to give music lessons to children. (I AM NOT EXAGGERATING YET) Then, her little sister tells her that her child will never understand why his mother abandoned him. (Now I’m pissed off) And maybe finding him a loving home with two adult and well off parents won’t be best for him because what if everyone does everything to help her and it will save the family from breaking up and it will be awesome! (This is when I ban the show from my house.)
And at the end, I honestly could not understand what the agenda of this show was. But it felt a lot more like propaganda and not at all like a show. So what is a teen girl supposed to take away from this?
That being said, the reason I was thinking of this was I found myself comparing the slightly different picture we painted here at Shadowgirls regarding teen pregnancy with Secret Life and I found myself wondering if the one with the fish monsters in it is more realistic…
See you back here on Wednesday…and I promise NO ranting!!
First, everyone give D-Rey some props for bringing us to page 40 of this season finale. I wish I could tell you that next season is going to be as crazy as this one, but I honestly don’t know for sure yet. But as we close in on the final pages of this issue I find myself going backwards and reviewing where the girls started and how far they’ve had to go to end this first threat.
I don’t think either of us knew that it was going to be Becka but in the end it had to be.
Well, things are getting complicated for our girls. I think this week will prove to be quite interesting all around. As a side note, you may have noticed that our post times have been shifting closer to the morning rather than midnight. Logistically it was just becoming more and more difficult to keep that schedule and we were planning to shift to mornings for the upcoming season. That and midnight is so shifty anyway, I think West coast people were getting the comic at 9pm.
We also have a new vote incentive featuring new character designs for our upcoming summer story. Enjoy!
Even though this wasn’t the planned page for today, I think it works better as a Friday page. That’s just a creepy way to start a Friday the 13th kind of moment. There does seem to be an excessive number of those this year.
I recently completed the final Starkweather script. The hardcover collection is coming out this summer. But as we approach the ending of this series it made me reflect on the differences and similarities between the two books that I get to write. For the most part, Shadowgirls just flies for me. I can almost not keep up with my brain sometimes as I race towards the ending of whatever issue I’m working on. And the finale for the series just all clicked together and it makes me more excited with every page that I get from D-Rey.
Starkweather on the other hand is very often WORK for me. Completing this LONG overdue script was difficult and I felt like I was wrestling that little bastard into submission the entire time. Part of the problem is that it is not always easy to let people make mistakes even when they are fictional. And Alex makes a lot of mistakes and I have to fight against my natural inclination to protect him from them. There’s a urge to make your characters cooler than they need to be at that moment without crippling them for the the rest of their story lives. If you make them too powerful and capable too fast you have to either artificially depower them or create threats that require pushing planets around to fix.
(Best example is Neo at the end of the Matrix. Awesome for a single movie…MORONIC for a trilogy) I’m sure there are others but I’ll let you find them.
But its finished. And I’m happy with the outcome. And I hope some of you check it out when it releases.
Enjoy the page and see you on Monday!
Now that we are recovered from our Twilight discussion we kick off this Monday with a place I don’t think anyone was expecting to go. And I think D-Rey does an incredible job of creating this universe out of nothing.
Keep your fingers crossed for our Becka and she faces off against Mother Hydra…
on her own.
***********************UPDATE*************************
New page will not be up till Friday. Sorry about the delay but real life does intrude a little sometimes. HOWEVER, as a reward for your continued patience and patronage click HERE for a brand new wallpaper!!
D.Rey here. D.Rod was occupied tonight with Watchmen, so the honor once again, goes to me tonight.
So tomorrow is my niece’s birthay, and she’s that somewhat difficult age of 13. Too old for Barbie dolls but too young to buy her a shotgun. So I’m at a complete blank for what to get her, so I ask her dad. “She’s really into that Twilight stuff.”
Twilight…
I think we all know my feelings on the subject. It’s kind of funny really… She’s She’s a prefectly normal and sweet 13 year old girl. Of course she’s into Twilight. I don’t now what I was expecting or hoping. I mean, when my nephew told me that he was really wanting Bumblebee and Megatron for Christmas, well, it was a pretty easy task for me to undertake. I knew not only who the characters were, but I was even able to which versions he wanted. (This is of no surprise to you all, I’m certain.) But with Twilight, I am at a total loss. I know he’s a sparkly vegetarian vampire. (Seriously? He’s Count Duckula?) and that’s it. So I went up to the Hot Topic store to buy a Twilight sweater for the girl, which apparently the skinny ass-goth, with more metal in his face than Robocop, thought I was buying it for myself. Because yes, at 6’6″, I’m a 350 pound 33 year old, wearing colorful earth tones and a Kingdom Come Superman T-Shirt, and my red tinted feathered hair, and an iPod loaded with New Wave music from the 1980′s playing. So obviously I must be buying a small black Twilight girls’ sweater with Edward on it from Hot Topic for myself to wear for myself on, I would guess… My lower calf.
Yeah… I wish I had been seeing Watchmen too.
And here we are with the next page.. See ya Monday!
So this Wednesday we have some real treats!
1. The beginning of a THRILLING new sequence.
2. A brand new wallpaper vote incentive.
3 AND a special Facebooks friends only wallpaper! (First time ever)
Oh…and those scary flying things. Go do your research!
