See! We don’t forget anyone. It’s an ensemble cast and you never know whose going to show up and summon a sky full of evil. But I think that’s a hell of a cliffhanger. I hope you agree because this marks the exact halfway point through the story and also marks the beginning of 2 weeks of waiting to see what the Master has done.
Because…next week we will both be traveling for the Wizard World Chicago Convention and the week after that is Summer Break for the 4th of July. But fret not Shadowfans! You’ll still be getting updates for the next two weeks. We’ve got some cool things planned to keep you entertained while you wait to see what is going to happen next.
And believe me you do NOT want to miss what happens next! Have a great weekend.

I think we may have a set a record for comments and reactions this weekend. And I can’t say it was a reaction that most of the team was expecting. But then again this strip has been nothing but a constant stream of surprises.
But we’ll have to leave that alone for now and check back in with our Shadowchild.

This page, more than any other in a long time, speaks to why the D-Rey is awesome. We’ll go past the things we have learned to take for granted such as the dynamism of the characters, the expressions, the lighting and coloring and let me share with you how much of a contribution he makes to the characters. To illustrate my point, here is something we’ve never done in the past.

PANEL 1
They are back in the entry way of the apartment. There is a Bloodwatch Whitecoat standing there.
1 WHITECOAT: The Bloodwatch is the intelligence arm of the EOD, my dear.
2 WHITECOAT: Our job is to keep you and yours in the dark.
3 WHITECOAT: We erase, rewrite, reroute, and when necessary…
4 WHITECOAT: …reprogram.
PANEL 2
Lindsey has moved into a protective position in front of the M.E.
5 LINDSEY: I guess old-fashioned belief wasn’t cutting it for you guys.
6 WHITECOAT: We’ve suffered too many setbacks over the years due to human fallibility. And where mysticism has failed…science prevails.
7 LINDSEY: Doesn’t it make it kind of meaningless? What good is a brainwashed follower…that’s not real faith.
PANEL 3
The Whitecoat is cocking an interested eyebrow at Lindsey.
8 WHITECOAT: All religion is brainwashing, poppet.
9 WHITECOAT: A series of guidelines programmed into your brain from the moment you are born, designed to regulate your behaviors over the course of your lifetime. Simply choose your pantheon and preferred lifestyle…and start scrubbing.
10 WHITECOAT: All we’ve done is streamline the process to produce the same result in seven days.
11 WHITECOAT: You should be very impressed now.
PANEL 4
Focus on Lindsey, at the far left of the wide panel and on the far right we see his hand holding a “tranq gun” loaded with some sort of chemical.
12 LINDSEY: Oh, I’m all sorts of impressed. Don’t let my panicked expression fool you.
PANEL 5
CU on the Whitecoat.Looking appropriately sinister.
13 WHITECOAT: I’ll call for another bed, Poppet.
14 WHITECOAT: Welcome to the EOD.

I showed you this for a couple of reasons. One, so you can see how little set direction I give. I break down panels and some minor details but then Dave goes off on his own and I don’t know what its going to look like until it arrives in my inbox in color.
The second reason is so that you can see how I described this guy. I called him BLOODWATCH WHITECOAT. And that’s it. His entire design and his bionic syringe hand were all Dave’s ideas. I gave him the tranq gun in the script and Dave came up with that CREEPY ass hand. That thing is awesome and so is this character. I like to think its the dialogue that brings these visuals into Dave’s head but either way, he has completely outdone himself with this guy and you can see why I was so impressed based on the skeleton he was sent.

To those of you who guessed that we would be changing scenes on Monday…you were right. But I’m not impressed. We do that all the time. It’s like the thing we do right before something is about to happen. We totally do that.
Of course I don’t know how else to do an ensemble book…maybe there’s a class that Joss Whedon and Shonda Rimes are teaching…Wait they change scenes all the damn time too.
Forget it, I’m doin it my way!
